A Dhaka court on Sunday sent to jail Prof Sadrul Amin, President of Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) , following his surrender to the court.
Of the four teachers against whom charges have been brought for violating the emergency law , three are in custody . The other two imprisoned teachers are Professor Anwar Hossain, General Secretary of DUTA and Professor Harunur Rashid , Dean Faculty of Social Science. Another teacher Professor Nimchandra Bhoumik has not yet presented himself to the court.
In another development, Syndicate members from Dhaka University met the Chief Advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed and the Chief of Army General Moeen U Ahmed. They requested the government for providing division to its imprisoned teachers. The Army Chief showed video pictures of the events of 21 and 22 August when clashes erupted following a row between the students of Dhaka University and some Army personnel within the university campus.
The Syndicate members said that the root cause of this disturbance can only be found after the report of the Judicial Committee is published.
