Bangladesh Chief Adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed is attending the 62nd session of UN General Assembly in New York.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, he met Cheick Sidi Diarra, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States ( OHRLLS ).
He also met with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi who has shown his country's keen interest in investing more in promising sectors of Bangladesh. During a bilateral meeting with Chief Adviser Ahmed, the Italian PM expressed his appreciation for Bangladesh's active role in the area of climate change, important for both the countries.
Meanwhile, World Bank President Robert Zoellick assured Dhaka of their support for various development projects of Bangladesh. The assurance came when the World Bank President called on Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Caretaker Government. During the meeting, the WB bank chief expressed his satisfaction over the steps taken by the present caretaker government on electoral, governance and economic reforms.
Bangladesh and Organization of Islamic Conference have agreed that active measures need to be taken to project Islam as a religion of peace, harmony and tolerance. The understanding was reached when OIC Secretary General Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu called on Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed at the UN headquarters.
Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed accompanied by his wife Neena Ahmed attended a reception hosted by President Bush and Mrs Laura Bush. Later, the chief adviser and his wife attended a state dinner hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Building in honor of heads of the state and government who are attending the 62nd UNGA session.
