The High Court in Bangladesh on Sunday granted bail to the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Gatco scam case in which she was accused of helping the 'incompetent' firm get container handling work at Dhaka Inland Container Depot (ICD) and Chittagong Port ICD yard.
The High Court also stayed the proceedings of the case and ruled upon the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to explain why bringing the case under the Emergency Powers Rules should not be declared to have been done without lawful authority.
A division bench of Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury passed the order upon two writ petitions. The court, however, did not grant bail to Khaleda's younger son Arafat Rahman Koko. ACC Deputy Director Golam Shahriar Chowdhury filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station against Khaleda, Koko and 11 others.
