Mainul Talks about Truth Commission at OCAB

Law advisor Mainul Hosein said on Sunday that the proposed ‘truth commission’ was an idea floated by the interim government to get feedback from different quarters.
If it is introduced, everyone will have chances for plea bargaining in graft cases paying fine for the offence, he added.
He, however, said prosecution would decide which graft cases would go to the truth commission for speedy disposal.

The law adviser said, the government was specially thinking of the businesspeople in terms of dealing with corruption charges since they played an important role in the country’s economy.

Asked whether the politicians with corruption charges would have the opportunity to go to the truth commission, Mainul said, the prosecution would determine it.

He, however, said the government was considering all the issues before enacting the law to the effect.

Mainul was speaking to the members of the Overseas Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (OCAB) at the National Press Club later in the afternoon.
