Iraqi officials say car and truck bombings have killed more than 20 people in Baghdad and areas north of the capital.
The deadliest attack occurred near the town of Samarra, 95 kilometers north of Baghdad. A suicide bomber there killed at least 13 people when he detonated an explosive-filled truck outside a police station.
Also, a suicide car bomber struck a police checkpoint near Tikrit, killing at least three people and wounding ten others.
In Baghdad, six people were killed in car bomb explosions near a market and the Polish embassy.
In other developments, the U.S. military says coalition forces killed five militants and detained three during a raid in eastern Baghdad on Monday. Also, a U.S. soldier has died from wounds sustained during a roadside bombing last week.
