Showers considerably dampened Mahasaptami, the first day of the four-day Durga puja on Thursday with the weather forecast saying more rain was expected due to formation of a low pressure area.
Dark clouds and rains left revelers in a state of despair, as many puja pandals remained inaccessible because of water-logging. Men, women and children dressed in their best had to wade through ankle deep water at many places as the showers continued all through the morning.
Though no major damage to any pandal was reported in the metropolis due to rain, the pleasure of puja was marred by the torrential rains.
