India’s minister for chemical & fertilizers and steel Ram Vilas Paswan inaugurated the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Kolkata on Monday.
In West Bengal, the Institute will be set up at Baruipur and the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB) will mentor it. Initially, classes will be held at IICB’s campus. It will initially offer three courses in pharmacy. Currently, there is only one NIPER and it is located at Mohali with a total in take capacity of 140 students per academic year. This is, however, being increased to 250.
