In an interview with VOA Bangla Service, Professor Shahiduzzaman of the department of International Relations in Dhaka University has analyzed the latest situation in Pakistan .
He says that although General Pervez Musharraf has used growing terrorism in Pakistan as a convenient pretext for promulgating emergency across the country and putting people behind the iron bars, it is widely believed that he expected a negative decision from the Supreme Court regarding the validity of his own election to the office of the President . He, therefore, took a pre-emptive measure against the independence of judiciary which in recent days in Pakistan have taken bold decisions against the military supported authorities.
Professor Shahiduzzaman also talks about Benazir Bhutto, the Head of Pakistan People's Party and her political relationship with Pervez Musharraf who despite having been criticized in the West enjoys support for his role against Islamic terrorism.
