Bangladesh-Burma Joint Trade Commission Meeting Held in Dhaka

The second Bangladesh-Myanmar Joint Trade Commission meeting was held on Tuesday in Dhaka. Brigadier General Aung Tun, deputy commerce minister of Burma, led the visiting delegation, comprising senior commerce ministry officials.

Bangladesh Finance Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam reiterated Bangladesh's proposal to use the new-found Myanmar gas to produce fertilizer in Bangladesh, that would be exported back across the border. Bangladesh wants to reduce the trade gap between the two countries.

Held after three years, the commission also mulled possible expansion of border-trade, land leases and contract farming, boosting of pharmaceutical exports and easing Myanmar visa restrictions for Bangladeshi traders.

Amir Khasru has more on the story.
