Dr Sreeradha Datta , the Senior fellow in a prestigious research center, Institute of Defense Studies and Analysis, says that it is highly unlikely that the present situation in Pakistan would change soon. As long as the emergency remains in Pakistan , despite severe oppositions by the civil society no change is possible.
Although General Pervez Musharraf has promised to take off his military uniform , he would still retain immense power in his capacity as the president of the country.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service Dr Datta said that Pakistan is now almost vertically divided between the army on one side and the rest of the country on the other. The division has never been so sharp before. Musharraf would remain in power as long as the Pakistan army wants him. She mentioned that some of the army officials have resigned in the meantime.
In this interview Dr Sreeradha Datta also talks about the impact of instability in Pakistan on India with a fear of falling the nuclear weapons on the hands of the terrorists in Pakistan.
