The U.S. and Bangladesh military have stepped up efforts to get relief supplies to victims of cyclone Sidr which wiped out entire villages and killed thousands.
Helicopters from the U.S. Navy vessel the USS Kearsarge, anchored off the coast of Bangladesh, are delivering food, water and medicine to survivors.
The powerful storm slammed into the country nearly two weeks ago, killing around 35-hundred people and displacing two million others. It is the worst cyclone to hit Bangladesh in years.
Meanwhile, the government said it needed 500-thousand tons of rice to maintain its stockpile while distributing rice to the hungry. And the Red Cross appealed for 22 million additional dollars to help sustain cyclone victims through the upcoming winter months.
