Mock battles were being played out in the skies above Kolkata with the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force taking off with its ‘Purvi Abhyas’. The exercise, conducted simultaneously across all air bases in the east, is expected to fine-tune operations, maintenance and administrative aspects of the Indian Air Force.
The exercise is being done to put the air bases through a heightened alert status. The squadrons have been launching air strikes against each other and conducting defense and interception operations to check their readiness in emergencies.
Three MiG-21 Type-77 fighters were stationed at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Dum Dum. The fighter aircrafts are kept at readiness to take off on receipt of the scramble message given by the Air Defense Controllers.
