The police and intelligence personnel have fanned out in search of the artifacts which were stolen from the ZIA International Airport just before shipment to Paris on Friday.
Officials at the National Museum said their representative had noticed that one of the 13 boxes, containing two terracotta images, was missing before being loaded on an Air France cargo plane. The 13 cartons were packed with a total of 145 pieces of artefacts.
He reported the matter immediately to the authorities concerned, and the law enforcers found the empty box in a nearby pond after a search.
The museum officials said the stolen crate contained two terracotta images of Lord Vishnu.
