Bangladesh says it will not send rare artifacts to Paris for a museum exhibit after two ancient statues disappeared on the way to France on Saturday.
A government statement said Bangladeshi officials Tuesday canceled plans to send the artifacts to the Guimet Museum in Paris following the apparent theft.
The two 15-hundred-year-old statues of the Hindu God Vishnu disappeared from Zia International Airport in Dhaka, just before they were to be loaded on a plane Saturday and sent to France.
Bangladeshi police say they have detained at least 12 people for questioning in connection to the disappearance. Officials have also asked international police organization Interpol for help in finding the missing artifacts.
Matiur Rahman Chowdhury has the details.
