Adviser for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh caretaker government Dr.Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury today briefed the heads of diplomatic missions and UN agencies on the government's future plan and sought their cooperation for holding the much expected general election by December this year.
"It has been a very comprehensive briefing on government's future plan in the economic and social fields as well as for holding elections by December 2008," the adviser told journalists at the end of his meeting with the diplomats. He said the people would derive benefits from the institutional reforms that the present government undertook in the past one year. He expressed the hope that donor countries and agencies would help the government implement the roadmap for the polls.
Dr. Chowdhury told them that the government would hold dialogues with the political parties before the elections. In this context, he sought cooperation of all including both from home and abroad. He called for creating a consensus to resolve all issues and reaffirmed the government's desire to hold a free and fair election.
