Hello Washington: Politics in USA: The Primaries

In today's Hello Washington our distinguished panelists Dr. Ali Riaz and Dr. Ahtesham Chowdhury answered questions from callers.

Dr. Ali Riaz is the Chairman of the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State University and currently an Associate Professor. Prior to joining Illinois State University he has taught at Claflin University in South Carolina, and the University of Lincoln in England.

Dr. Ahtesham Chowdhury, a former Election Advisor in Iraq, is an expert on election and worked at the National Republican Party. Currently he is working with the McCain campaign.

On Tuesday's Primary Election in four states in USA, Senator John McCain capped a remarkable comeback, sweeping four races and winning enough delegates to secure the party nomination.

For the Democrats, Senator Hillary Clinton revived her campaign with key wins Tuesday in the delegate-rich states of Ohio and Texas, halting the 12-contest winning streak of rival Senator Barack Obama. The former first lady also won in the small northeastern state of Rhode Island, while Obama was the victor in Vermont.

The panelists answered questions about the election results, the candidates, fund raising issues, NAFTA, Asian American votes, super delegates etcetera.

Shegoftah Nasreen Queen hosted the show.
