BNP ‘s pro khaleda group has demanded the resignation of the Dr A T M Shamsul Huda, the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh. Dr Huda , while speaking to the journalists plays down the demand for his resignation.
In fact the CEC and indeed the Election Commission itself is today at the center of a raging controversy over various political comments emanating from a hitherto non-controversial and acceptable Commission.
The Commission is being assailed by the two major parties, the Awami League and the BNP, and others and trust in the ability of the Commission to hold a credible election as it is constituted now, is fast waning, giving rise to the demand for the resignation of the CEC. Once a body, such as the Election Commission, becomes controversial, it signals the beginning of the end unless there is a quick U turn and change of course.
But apparently unnerved by the demand for his resignation Dr Huda on Sunday made it clear that he was least bothered over the demand. Rather, he said that he viewed the demand for his resignation by a section of political parties as their own opinion.
