The life of Tokai, the famous cartoon-strip street urchin, who deliberates on socio-political issues, reflects, in many ways, the life of his creator Rafiqun Nabi, better known by his pen name Ronobi.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service Ronobi says that in his life he has seen and observed more than he has actually done .His Tokai gained immense popularity in the now-defunct Bichitra magazine and subsequently in its successor the Shaptahik 2000.
He said that he had traveled through one political upheaval to another. In my early days I was swept up by the social, cultural, and political revolution of the sixties.
Ronobi will be remembered in history for a wide spectrum of work that includes painting, drawing, print-making, writing, cartoons and activism all serving one single-minded purpose: to capture the important moments in the history he has witnessed around him.
