India Bans Fishing Activities for 45 Days in Bay of Bengal

AS part of its efforts to conserve fishery resources in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off the east coast, India’s Ministry of Agriculture has, for the second consecutive year, declared a uniform 45-day ban on fishing activities from April 15.

The ban will be implemented in the four States of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and West Bengal. In its recent order, the Ministry has directed the deep-sea fishing operators in these four States to shift their operations elsewhere during the ban period.

Paramashish Ghosh Roy has more on the story.
