Bangladesh to Export Ready-to-wear Garments to India

The ready-to-wear garments (RMG) exporters of Bangladesh are on their last leg of preparation now to kick off exporting the merchandise to the vast India market under a duty free arrangement.

The President of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Anwarul Alam Chowdhury said that the Bangladesh exporters are mobilizing efforts to reach their merchandise to the Indian market as soon as possible.

The Indian government has agreed to import 8 million pieces of garments under the South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) as a special gesture to boost the Bangladesh’s exports to India.

Delhi signed a deal with Dhaka in September last year for importing the 8 million pieces of RMG in a year at zero tariff so that the trade gap will be reduced between Bangladesh and India.

Zahurul Alam has more on the story.
