Bangladesh Government Begins Dialogue with Political Parties amidst Wide Uncertainties

Bangladesh government has decided to begin a political dialogue from May 22 with smaller parties. However, it is still not certain whether the major two political parties Awami League and BNP would join the dialogue.

Awami League has, in fact , said that unless their leader , Sheikh Hasina , the former Prime Minister is released they will not join dialogue and BNP is having an in-fight between the two factions , the Khaledaites and the Reformists. It has been announced that the government will also hold dialogue with the members of the civil society.

The Trade Advisor Hossain Zillur Rahman says that they have already received the names of the delegates of smaller political parties who have expressed their eagerness to talk to the government.

A veteran journalist ABM Musa says that without a clear mandate from the leaders of the major parties, the party delegates will not be able to decide.
