US Ambassador in Dhaka James F Moriarty spoke at an event organized by the American Chamber of Commerce.
The ambassador said the political situation in Bangladesh would deteriorate if general elections are not held by December this year. The US envoy also said the next elected government must respect the caretaker government's reform initiatives.
Ambassador Moriarty also said the US would not want to see Bangladesh replicate Pakistan's time under President General Pervez Musharraf, who had initially accomplished a number of projects and enjoyed popularity but eventually fell out with the people and was forced out, he said.
