Falu sentenced to Rigorous Imprisonment for Stealing Relief Materials

A special anti-graft court on Monday sentenced five years’ rigorous imprisonment to Mosaddek Ali Falu for misappropriating government relief materials in a first verdict to the former BNP lawmaker.

In addition to this he was also fined Taka 535,000. If the former lawmaker fails to pay the amount, he will have to suffer another year behind bars, the court ruling said. The court acquitted another accused -- Monirul Islam Sohel—one of Falu’s associates—as charges were not proved against him.

On February 10 last year, sub-inspector Ismail Hossain of the Ashulia Police Station filed the case against Falu and Sohel for misappropriating 982 pieces of corrugated iron (CI) sheets meant for relief to the underprivileged. The army-led joint forces seized the government relief materials from the Savar site of a factory owned by Falu on February 9.
