Court issued a rule upon the government to explain within 4-week why it should
not direct the authorities to take necessary steps to ensure the availability
of due share of Ganges water at Farakka point as per the Ganges Water Sharing
Treaty between Bangladesh and India.
On June 8, Supreme Court lawyers MK
Muraduzaman and Faruk Hossain filed the writ as public interest litigation
stating that Bangladesh has not been receiving its due share of Ganges water at
Farakka point as per agreements signed with India.
