Campaign Meetings will be Allowed Before Local Elections in Bangladesh: Karim


Abdul Karim, the Home Secretary said that the emergency rules will not be relaxed during the local elections. However, meetings and election rallies can be done beginning from the 21 days before the election date.

In a news conference on Monday he said that the emergency will be effective according to the rules of the election commission. It may be mentioned that on August 4, elections for four city corporations and nine municipalities will be held.

Home affairs secretary Abdul Karim on Monday said that the government had conditionally relaxed the Emergency Powers Rules to allow electioneering ahead of the local government polls scheduled for August 4.


Relaxation of the Emergency Powers Rules would be applicable within the framework of the electoral rules and not beyond it, he clarified following confusions over the jurisdiction and tenure of the government order easing the ban on rallies and processions
