Dialogue with Gurkha Leaders had a little Success

The regional dialogue titled 'national dialogue for transition to democracy' was held as part of the government's talks with local elite and professionals outside Dhaka ahead of the national elections.
Twenty-seven persons belonging to different professional bodies and local elite took part in the discussion when they demanded holding of local government polls including upazila elections before the national elections.

The West Bengal government on Friday said it was not averse to a tripartite meeting and there was no need for creation of a separate state, as the Gurkha Janamukti Morcha rejected the offer of more powers for the hill council and stuck to its demand for Gorkhaland.

The chief minister said that he had asked the GJM delegation to return and discuss that the state government wanted to give more power to the hill council.

On the other hand, GJM central committee member Amar Lama said the delegation rejected the chief minister's offer of more administrative and financial powers to the DGHC as we are only for creation of Gorkhaland.
