Parliament Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee continues to stonewall the CPM leadership`s effort to persuade him to toe the party line and resign from the post.
In an effort to prevent any revolt by Bengal minister, Subhas Chakraborty, the party leadership has asked the state leaders to seek explanation from him.
However, almost all parties, ranging from Congress to BJP want Chatterjee to stay in his post as it will be difficult to replace him with anyone with matching knowledge of parliamentary procedure. But, the CPM wants him to step down.
