Bangladesh Court Convicts Former Communication Minister for Corruptions & Concealments


A court of Bangladesh today sentenced absconding former communication minister Anwar Hossain Manju 13 years in jail for acquiring wealth illegally and concealing wealth related information. The court also ordered confiscation of his illegal wealth worth Taka 21 million (US$ 300,000).


A former communications minister, Manju was handed down 10 years' RI for accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income and three years' RI for hiding information about his wealth. The jail terms will run consecutively, the court said in its judgement.


Since he is absconding, the jail sentences will come into effect the day he surrenders or is arrested.
