Bangladesh HC Acquits Six Army Officers Convicted in 2004 Prison Murders, Upheld Death Sentence of One Person

Bangladesh's high court acquitted six army officers convicted in 2004 for the prison murders of four politicians more than 30 years ago.

The court today overturned a lower court's ruling that had given death sentences to two men and life sentences to four others for their role in the 1975 killings. The court upheld the death sentence of one person. The victims were close associates of Bangladesh's first leader, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Acting president of the Bangladesh government-in-exile Syed Nazrul Islam, prime minister Tajuddin Ahmed, finance minister M Mansur Ali, and minister of home affairs, relief and rehabilitation AHM Qamaruzzaman, were killed inside Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 of 1975.
