Ahmed , the Chief Advisor of the caretaker government in Bangladesh said that
whether Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia , the two former Prime Ministers of
Bangladesh would be allowed to take part in the upcoming election will solely
depend on the decision by the election commission.
In an interview
with the Time magazine Dr Ahmed
said the caretaker government wants to continue with the state of emergency
until the general elections to "retain control" over the old problems
of money and muscle power during polls. He referred to
the recently held local body elections and said: "We relaxed the emergency
rules to allow normal election campaigning. We haven't heard any complaint from
any of the candidates."
Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed also thinks that his
government's drive against the corrupt people did not go in vain . Corrupt
people have been convicted and punished , he said.
