Listeners celebrated Bangla Services’s 50 th Anniversary at a cultural event in Kolkata. Voice of America Listener’s Meet was held in Kolkata.
Dedicated fans of VOA’s Bengali-language service came from as far away as northern W. Bengal and Bangladesh to attend the all-day affair.
Bangla Service’s Roquia Haider attended the event. In his remarks, Public Affairs Officer Douglas Kelly noted that VOA’s Bengali service “is one its most popular broadcasts in Asia, with a potential audience of 240 million Bengali speakers.”
