Sheikh Hasina’s  Exclusive Interview with VOA Bangla Service


Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and President of Bangladesh Awami League, in an exclusive interview, with VOA Bangla Service reiterated her stand on democrac . She says that people in Bangladesh wants election, they look forward to an elected government particularly after they have gone through so much difficulties during the BNP led four party alliance government followed by the interim government.

Hasina insists that she would participate in this election. Sheikh Hasina claims that all the cases against her have been manipulated. She says that the cases have been fabricated for no reasons whatsoever. But for the sake of democracy she would go ahead with the election and if people in Bangladesh do not endorse her , she will accept people’s opinion. Asked if she was going to form into a bigger alliance in which Hussain Muhammad Ershad could be included, she said all like-minded political parties are welcome to join the alliance. Hasina, however, said that the final decision about who to form an alliance with will be taken when she goes back home.

Replying to question about post 1/11 reforms within the political party, Sheikh Hasina reminded that her party has never been against reforms because it is the only party which practices democracy within the party activities. She said that the major issues for her to resolve was the price hike and food shortage in Bangladesh . She said that in spite of health problems, she is now feeling better and will go back home to be with her people.

Sheikh Hasina gave this interview during her brief visit to VOA Office where she was shown her portrait which has been put up in a wall amongst the leaders of democracy across the world . She also visited Bangla Service and exchanged greetings with the members of staff.
