Five Killed in Accidental Blast in India

Police in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh say at least five people have been killed and six others injured in a blast at a dump site.

Local authorities say the explosion happened when scrap collectors tried to dismantle a discarded artillery shell in the town of Meerut Saturday.

Meerut's police chief Harbhajan Singh says the victims were between 10 and 18 years old. He says police cordoned off the area, and recovered and safely defused five more abandoned shells. Authorities say the explosion was an accident and not related to any terror activity.
