The Chief of Army in Bangladesh , General Moeen U Ahmed, on Tuesday said
he would request the government to withdraw the state of emergency, declared on
January 11, 2007, before the December 29 general election.

keeping ‘patience’ to allow the interim government to withdraw the state of
emergency and hold the balloting in a congenial atmosphere.
made the remarks in response to the request by the Federation of Bangladesh
Chambers of Commerce and Industry president, Annisul Huq, to create an
atmosphere for free and fair elections by withdrawing the state of emergency
