Army will be Deployed Countrywide before Election : Moeen

The Government asked security forces on Saturday to be on alert against underground militant groups trying to disrupt elections scheduled for December 29.

The Armed Forces will be deployed countrywide from December 20, ahead of the national elections, Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed said yesterday in Chittagong.

In the meantime Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed also gave a call for the alert a day after security officials said intelligence reports suggested that the banned Jammat-ul-Mujahideen was planning to attack government buildings ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed said yesterday, "Army personnel will be in the field for the upcoming national elections, from December 20 not from December 24." The Army Chief on Saturday maintained that troops would be deployed from December 20, adding, "The army will carry out its duty properly in the elections, we will do exactly the jobs we will be assigned to."
