Hello Washington - Role of Inspirational Bangla Music during 1971 War


December means the month of victory for Bangladeshi people living anywhere on earth. Inspirational Bangla music played a pivotal role during the 1971 war period. They boosted the morale of the people and the freedom fighters alike.

The topic of our weekly Hello Washington this week is the role of Bangla music during 1971 war.

Our guests include Kaderi Kibria, a renowned Tagore singer, who was one of the artists based at a small makeshift radio station called Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during 1971 war.

Patriotic Bangla songs broadcast from that station inspired the whole Bengali nation and the freedom fighters at that time.

Rathindranath Roy, another powerful vocalist in folk music for last four decades, was also based at the same radio station at that time.

Nasiruddin Yusuf is a freedom fighter, a leading cultural activist, deeply involved in stage play productions for more than 30 years.
