He retired as the Professor of Fine Arts from the Institute of Arts , Dhaka University.

Qayyum Chowdhury was honored with a number of awards including Ekushey Padak, National Book Center’s Gold Medal, Bangla Academy Award for Cover-Illustrations. Qayyum Chowdhury has participated in several exhibitions both at home and abroad .

Recently he joined the Asian Art Fair in New York. In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service QayyumChowdhury talks about the Asian Art Fair and reflects on his own works.

Qayyum Chowdhury in his five decade-long artistic quest successfully evolved a style and form of his own. He looked for the essence of Bengal art and could reinvent and rejuvenate that in the light of contemporary reality and relevance. He has been inspired by the earlier masters but that was only his point of departure.

Qayyum Chowdhury has created a distinct style as well as aesthetics and has shown both continuity and uniqueness in his work. The phases of his artistic search and style need detail analysis and critical evaluation
