US Assistant Secretary of the State for South and Central Asian Affairs Richard A Boucher visited Bangladesh for two days.
He met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni. He offered US assistance to Bangladesh's maritime patrol so that Bangladesh can better protect its sea areas. Mr. Boucher rejected the notion of setting up any U.S. military base in Bangladesh territorial water. He also gave assurance of US’s cooperation for Bangladesh war criminals trial.
