Awami League lawmaker, Chief Whip Abdus Shahid has filed an application with the returning officer (RO) on behalf of Zillur Rahman for his candidacy as the party's nominee for the election of Bangladesh’s next President.
Veteran Awami League leader, Mr. Rahman is expected to be elected uncontested the nation’s next president since no one else has submitted nomination paper for candidacy in the presidential poll. Sunday was the last date for filing nominations.
In the application, AL lawmaker and party's Presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury proposed Zillur's name as the party's presidential nominee and the chief whip seconded the proposal.
