Police in eastern Bangladesh say 10 people were killed when a boat sank after it collided with a ferry in the Titas River today, Sunday.
The capsized vessel was carrying about 50 passengers along the Titas in the Brahmanbaria district, east of the capital Dhaka. Police say 10 bodies have been recovered, and children are among the victims. Fatal ferry accidents are common in Bangladesh.
Many of the incidents are blamed on poor safety standards, lax enforcement, and boats that are often loaded far beyond capacity.
