At least 12
people were killed and 50 injured in a train-truck collision in the Kashiabari
level crossing in the Jaipurhat district headquarters Tuesday noon.
Railway
communications, suspended for about five hours after the accident, could be
restored at around 7:00pm.
A three-member committee, headed by additional district magistrate Setara Begum, was formed to investigate the incident.
Witnesses and the police said the incident took place when a mail train headed for Khulna from Parbatipur rammed into a truck laden with sand in the level crossing at about 12:10pm. The truck driver and six train passengers were killed on the spot. Fifty more were injured.
