Twelve Killed in Truck-Train Collision in Bangladesh

At least 12 people were killed and 50 injured in a train-truck collision in the Kashiabari level crossing in the Jaipurhat district headquarters Tuesday noon.

Railway communications, suspended for about five hours after the accident, could be restored at around 7:00pm.

A three-member committee, headed by additional district magistrate Setara Begum, was formed to investigate the incident.

Witnesses and the police said the incident took place when a mail train headed for Khulna from Parbatipur rammed into a truck laden with sand in the level crossing at about 12:10pm. The truck driver and six train passengers were killed on the spot. Fifty more were injured.
