Professor Momen analyzes the Security Threats in the South Asia

Dr. AK Momen is a Professor of Economics and Business at Framington College in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr Momen has been doing some research on Global Terrorism, South Asia & Bangladesh where he has made a comparative study of terrorist activities in these countries.

In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla service , Dr Momen holds the intelligence agencies in Bangladesh responsible for their failure to gather information prior to the BDR mutiny which cost the nation a number of valuable lives . He also suggests that like other countries in the West the intelligence agencies in Bangladesh should be headed by the civilians instead of military personnel.

South Asian countries, particularly India , Pakistan and Bangladesh have seen terrorist attacks including a rebellious move in a paramilitary forces in Bangladesh .

In all such threats each of these countries have blamed the armed forces and the intelligence departments of either India or Pakistan. But Dr Momen emphasizes on the point that , as Sheikh Hasina , the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has proposed, a joint task force could be built up to quell terrorism in the region.
