Businessman Badalur Rahman Khan Speaks About Malaysia Cancelling Bangladeshi Workers’ Visas

Badalur Rahman Khan, a Bangladeshi engineer and businessman have lived in Malaysia for the last 18 years.

In an interview with Voice of America, Badalur Rahman Khan spoke about the reasons why Malaysian government has decided to rescind visas for Bangladeshi workers.

He said, that there are two reasons. He said that the first reason is the worldwide economic recession which has affected Malaysia. The local authority is warning everybody that, if there is recession they will send back foreign workers home.

Meanwhile, a Bangladeshi official at the Bangladesh High Commission, Labor Counselor, Talat Mahmood, recently told the Malaysian media that – 70 thousand Bangladeshi workers are expected to go to Malaysia even if there is economic recession.

Mr. Rahman said Malaysian media/authority took that statement very seriously. Malaysian trade union congress also opposed it. He said another reason is the upcoming election on 30th March.

Present coalition government and leaders from ruling political party AMNO have taken this issue very seriously.
