Bangladeshi Mutineers to Face Military Court

Bangladeshi authorities say border guards involved in a bloody mutiny against army officers will face charges before a special military tribunal.

The country's minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs, Shafique Ahmed said Thursday the border guards are subject to army regulations.A spokesman for U.S.-based Human Rights Watch questioned whether the border guards can get a fair trial before a military court because dozens of army officers were killed during the mutiny.

The two-day revolt last month in Dhaka left about 70 people dead, including 56 army officers.Police say they have detained the mutiny's ringleader, Tauhidul Alam, along with other suspects. Authorities continue to search for 1,000 other borders guards and their alleged accomplices.
