Insinuating that the US was trying to influence the Lok Sabha polls through its intelligence agency, CPI(M) state Secretary Biman Basu today alleged that a blueprint of conspiracy was being prepared against the ruling Left Front in West Bengal. Mr Biman Basu, also the Chairman of the Left Front Committee, said that high officials of US Consulate had met members of a minority community at a private hotel last week and made comments on the upcoming elections in violation of the diplomatic norms.
However , the Director of the American Center in Kolkata dismissed these allegations. He said that their only objective is the improved relations between India and the USA. He said that the allegations of any kinds of conspiracy is rubbish.
The CPI(M) raising an accusing finger against the US
consulate and the CIA took place also in the past when US consulate officials
visited Nanoor in Birbhum district during the Chief Ministership of Mr Jyoti
Basu.
The visit of the officials was connected to a political clash in which eleven
people were killed.
In the recent past, the CPI(M) took serious exception to US consulate officials
holding talks with PDIC leader Siddiqullah Chowdhury, who played a major part
in the anti-land acquisition agitation in Nandigram.
