Dhaka and Delhi
agreed to assign experts to assess the inclusion of new ports of call as the
renewed on Tuesday the inland water trade and transit protocol aimed at boosting
inland water trade for two more years.
‘Before
finalising anything, we have decided the technical committee will look into the
proposals and give their recommendations when they meet in April,’ Vijay
Chhibber, additional secretary of India’s road, transport and highways
ministry, told reporters after the two-day meeting on the renewal of the deal
at the Sonargaon Hotel.
Both Chibber and his Bangladesh counterpart Masud Elahi, secretary-in charge of the shipping ministry, the two signatories to the deal, claimed the renewal of the deal would contribute to trade enhancement between the countries significantly.
