Bangladesh celebrated the 39th Independence and National Day on Thursday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed a wreath in the morning at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in Dhaka. After placing the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time.
A contingent drawn from the three services presented a gun salute on the occasion. Ministers, MPs, high civil and military officials, diplomats of the foreign missions, and leaders and workers of Awami League were present.
President Zillur Rahman hosted a reception in the evening at Bangabhaban. on the occasion of the country's 39th Independence and National Day. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the reception.
