Dhaka Medical
College was on Tuesday closed for an indefinite period over factional clashes
of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League’s associate body of
students, in which one was killed and 25 were injured.
Abul Kalam Asad Rajib, the general secretary
of the college unit Chhatra League which has served out its tenure, died in
Dhaka Combined Military Hospital in the evening after being shifted there from
Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Fourteen of the injured were admitted to
Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Other students injured were given first-aid
treatment.
The college academic council at an emergency
meeting in the morning closed the college for an indefinite period to fend off
further clashes and deterioration in campus law and order.
The college authorities vacated its hostels
at 4:00pm, but allowed foreign students to stay there.
