Bangladesh Army Chief Resigns the Chairmanship of NSC

Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed today resigned as the chairman of the National Sports Council (NSC) citing 'personal reasons.'

Moeen sent his resignation letter to the state minister for youth and sports Ahad Ali Sarkar today, an official of the ministry said.

His resignation from the top post of the sports' governing body came a week after he was put in a spot of bother for attending a deal signing ceremony between Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and Bashundhara Group.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, who is convicted of graft, and BFF President Kazi Salahuddin signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Kurmitola Golf Club on April 12.

Moeen, a strong voice against corruption, was bitterly criticised for standing alongside Akbar Sobhan, who was at large during the caretaker government and was convicted in his absence. In his resignation letter, Gen Moeen however said that he was quitting for personal reasons.
