Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Leaves for Saudi Arabia on Monday Evening


Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is scheduled to leave Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on Monday on a five-day official tour of the kingdom, to perform Umrah and hold talks with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.

A 40-strong entourage will accompany Hasina during the visit, her first overseas trip after the Awami League assumed office on January 6.

The prime minister’s entourage includes her sister Sheikh Rehana and son Sajib Wazed Joy and senior cabinet members, including foreign minister Dipu Moni, commerce minister Faruk Khan, state minister for foreign affairs Hasan Mahmud and state minister for labour Munnujan Sufian.

Foreign ministry officials said that Hasina would meet with King Abdullah on April 21 to discuss various issues of bilateral as well as mutual interest. Dhaka will also focus on issues of Bangladeshi workers in the oil-rich Middle East nation.
